Wellness At Salisbury Central
The Child Nutrition and WIC Reauthorization Act of 2004 (Public Law 108-265) required that schools such as Salisbury Central which participate in the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) - National School Lunch Program establish a school wellness policy by the 2006-07 school year. The Salisbury Board of Education adopted its Policy Regarding Wellness (#5139) in July of 2006. Salisbury Central School’s Advisory Council on Wellness was established during the 2006-07 school year in response to the adoption of the BOE Policy Regarding Wellness.
The Advisory Council on Wellness, which is overseen by the Salisbury Board of Education, reviews any available state or federal guidance on wellness issues and assists in formulating recommendations for specific goals and guidelines aimed at promoting lifelong wellness practices among Salisbury Central School students and staff.
Examples of the goals that may be recommended include, but are not limited to:
- Nutrition Education and Promotion
- Physical Activity and Physical Education
- Nutrition Standards for School Foods and Beverages
