The Salisbury Town Hall

There have been two town halls built in Salisbury. The first town hall was built in 1752. It was remodeled in 1878 and enlarged in 1913. A brand new town hall was built and opened on August 28, 1988. A new town hall had to be built because a fire took place on August 5, 1985. Some one that was angry started the fire on purpose. The fire took place during the night and no one was killed. Not everything was lost in the fire. Flags and guns were found in the basement. The papers that were in the town vault were saved.
There are eleven offices housed in the town hall. They are offices for the Assessor, the Bookkeeper, the Building Official, Fire Marshall, Probate Judge, Registrar, Sanitarian, Selectman, Tax Collector, Town Clerk and the Committee on Elder Services. The First Selectman's job is like a mayor's job, but a First Selectman does jobs that mayors usually have done for them by other town officials. There are different committees that have meetings at the town hall. The town hall is open from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM Monday through Friday.
