PTO

The PTO is a group of parents and teachers that work together to make Salisbury Central School a great place.

The PTO does many great things. It spends a lot of money on our school. But have you ever wondered where it gets all that money? It gets it from you! Remember the Sally Foster Gift Wrap? Did you buy any wrap? That went to the PTO. How about the Scholastic Book Fair? If you bought a book...Tah-dah! You made a contribution to the PTO! Then, the PTO must decide what to do with all that money. They have several options. Some of them are: the cafeteria committee and lunch program; school field trips; school equipment; SCS music programs; a new playground; classroom equipment of the teacher's choice; kindergarten fire day; and bringing in people from other cultures so students can learn about different ways of life.

The PTO stands for Parent Teacher Organization. This means that every parent or teacher in the school can be involved in the PTO. Some people involved in the PTO have special jobs and positions. The PTO elects people to be in the different positions. Elections happen in June. Anyone at the meeting can vote. For example, Ms. Carroll, who I interviewed for this article, is the president. She must run the PTO and help remind people about what they're suppose to do. Mrs. Allen is the vice-president. It's her job to run the meetings when Ms. Carroll can't be there. Mrs. Murray is the secretary. Her job is to write everything down. Those are the 'minutes' of the meetings. Mrs. Weigel is the treasurer. She counts the money and writes checks.

People involved in the PTO are very generous. They give up their own time to go to meetings and work at fundraisers. You may think the things they do are small. But they make a big difference to our school. And so, I would like to thank them for all the things they do to help make SCS sparkle and shine. Thank you, PTO!
