The Lakeville Journal

By Kristen

Have you ever wondered what special things are happening in our area? Since 1897, the Lakeville Journal has been serving Lakeville, Salisbury, Sharon, Canaan, Falls Village, Cornwall, Kent, Norfolk, and Litchfield. This local newspaper comes out weekly on Thursday.

The Lakeville Journal, which contains many different sections, keeps the communities it serves informed about local events and happenings. It reports on schools, things that happen around the area, activities for people of all ages, birth of children at the local hospital, and high school sports. It includes a 'mini-page' with word searches and other fun activities for children. You will find advertisements for movies, local businesses, available jobs, and real estate. The Compass section has information about art, movies, theater, dining, and music. There is a page for each town that tells the news about that town. The sports pages report about recent games involving teams for the Housatonic Valley Regional High School and other private high schools in the area. The Opinion section contains an editorial by the newspaper staff and letters to the editor from community members. The Health section contains medical news and a part where readers can write questions to a doctor and he answers them. The Classified section contains help wanted and real estate ads.

About 5000 people read The Lakeville Journal each week. There are also two other newspapers called The Winsted Journal and The Millerton News that are printed at the same building in downtown Lakeville.

The Lakeville Journal has been letting people know what is happening around their communities for a long time and many people rely on it. If you haven't yet bought the Lakeville Journal, grab a dollar and go down to the nearest market and buy one.
