Housatonic Day Care

By Katherine

Do you work, and have a young child that needs someone to care for them? You could consider Housatonic Day Care. The daycare center is here to help the community take care of children whose parents go to work.

The Housatonic Daycare Center has been operating for thirty-two years. It was first located in a church in Lakeville, then it moved to a building on Wells Hill Road, and finally it moved to the building it is in now. It has been in its present location on Salmon Kill Road for seven years.

Thirteen people work at the Housatonic Day Care. The Director, Lisa Harmon, supervises the employees and manages the center. When she hires people, she looks for somebody that loves children, understands early childhood education and development and has experience working with children.

The day care center is open Monday through Friday from 7:45 am to 5:15 pm. It costs $40.00 a day for children three years old or under. It costs $30.00 a day for children three through six year olds. For half a day, the cost is half a full day cost.

Seventy children attend Housatonic Day Care. Not all children come everyday. Some come just for a few days a week or not a full day. Children range in age from four months to six years old. Every child can attend if the day care has room.

Some children come early in the morning while others come later. Kindergartners are brought by the school bus when school gets out. The activities all help children develop. Some of the activities are music, literature, physical activities, art and field trips. All activities are done in a fun way. Everybody, but kindergartners, have to take naps.

The Housatonic Day Care is full of joy.

We're here to help the community because so many families go to work and it's nice to know there is someplace safe for their children.
