Girl Scouts

By Sarah

Have you ever wondered why you see so many girls wearing different vests that are brown, green, blue or khaki, covered with lots of patches and badges? That's because there are over one hundred Girl Scouts in Salisbury!

The goal of Girl Scouts is to provide girls with a chance to develop leadership skills, improve self-esteem, become confident young women, and have fun! It does not cost very much to become a Girl Scout. The membership dues are $7.00, the handbook is $8.00, and a vest is $14.00. Even if a girl is unable to pay she is welcome to join and the council or troop will cover her fees.

Girl Scouts help a lot of people and places. Some examples of the service projects that have been completed in our area are:

Participation in the "Festival of Trees";
Caroling at local retirement communities;
Food Drives;
Baby basket for Sharon Hospital;
Box Tops for Education; Christmas
Tree for Last Post at Petpourri; and a
Used Book Collection

All of the girls really enjoy giving back to the community and each year come up with new ways to help. Girl Scouts is recommended to every girl who might be interested. If you like friends, fun and learning lots of new things, Girl Scouts is for you!

I think every girl would have fun being a Girl Scout.
