Christian Children's Fund

When you hear the word 'poor' or 'disadvantaged', what do you think of? Do you think of families with little or no money? Do you think of young children at home alone because both of their parents have to be at work and there is no one to watch them? Or do you think of a middle-aged man looking for jobs to support his family? Disadvantaged is any one of these situations. It has many different meanings.

You don't have to live in Asia. You don't have to live in Africa. You can be poor anywhere, even right here in the United States of America! The Christian Children's Fund, founded in 1946, sees their responsibility as helping the global community. Today it helps children from all different countries of the world. Many of these children of the world don't have as many advantages as we do. Some of the services provided by CCF include medical, education, early childhood development, positive parenting training, motor skills improvement, and health care services information.

Anyone can sponsor a child. If you want to look into it, keep these things in mind: you must donate money with a check or credit card every month. This money will then go to the child's school or church. Another important thing to keep in mind is communicating with the child. Letters are one good way to develop a relationship. You can send letters whenever you want to. Another good way to stay in touch is visiting. You can actually see what the child's life looks like. CCF will send you photographs of the child you sponsor and you can send them photographs of you.

Some people sponsor children because they like to help children, while others do it just for fun. But whatever the reason, this organization can develop a unique relationship between you and a child who lives as close as the next county or as far away as the other side of the world.

I would like to thank Mr. Schwaikert and all of the wonderful people who have agreed to sponsor a child. And a special thanks to the Christian Children's Fund for doing so well. I would also recommend this organization to anyone who is interested. Remember, what you do can change a child's life forever.

Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful concerned citizens can change the world. Indeed, it's the only thing that ever has.           - Margaret Mead
