Salisbury Central School Band
IMPORTANT NOTICE
SENIOR BAND
EXTRA REHEARSALS
Due to the large number of missed rehearsals so far this year (and the one’s we are scheduled to miss), I am adding two (2) additional after-school rehearsals to make sure that you will be adequately prepared for the spring concert on May 1. This is in addition to the Saturday rehearsal that has been on the calendar since the beginning of the year (April 19). I have tried to schedule these rehearsals between seasons for school sports and with the timing of other school activities in mind.
We will meet on the two half days, March 19th & 20th from 1:15 to 3:05. Attendance is expected at these rehearsals and as with all other rehearsals, it will factor into grading for the marking period. |
Dear Band Parents,
I am very happy to greet you again and hope that you are enjoying the winter weather. There are a few items I would like to bring up at this point, but first I would like to thank you for the efforts you all make in encouraging your children to practice and attend early morning band. I know it is tough motivating them through these blustery and gloomy days, but with skiing, assemblies and testing, morning rehearsals are one of the only times I can consistently see them this time of year.
MUSIC IN THE PARKS
Saturday, May 03, 2008
I am very excited to announce that plans are well underway for a band trip this spring. This year we are again planning to go to Six Flags New England for the Music in the Parks festival. We will arrive at Holyoke High School (Holyoke, MA) to give a judged performance and observe some of the other bands that are attending. Both the Senior Band and the Jazz Ensemble will be performing this year. Our performing responsibilities should be completed before 2:00 pm. The rest of the day will be spent at Six Flags. This includes the awards ceremony which will be held at 5:30 pm in one of the large pavilions at the park. All 1,000+ students performing on that day will gather there to celebrate. More details regarding itinerary will be forthcoming as it is developed and finalized.
All Senior Band students are eligible to attend this trip as long as grades and behavior are acceptable and with the band director’s approval. The cost per student is $60 and the cost per adult chaperone is $40. This covers the registration for the festival, entrance to the park and a t-shirt. The cost does not cover food and snacks.
- I will need a completed permission slip and payment to be turned in as soon as possible, but no later than Friday March 7, 2008.
PLEASE REMITT ALL PAYMENTS TO MR. NELLSON
- Checks should be made payable to Salisbury Central School Band.
- Please mark student name on bottom of check, for easier processing.
- Some financial assistance for students may be available on a case by case basis. Please submit a letter to Mr. Nellson with the student permission slip.
If you would like to chaperone or help the band in any other way, please return the attached sheet to Mr. Nellson as soon as possible. We will not be able to go on this trip if we do not get enough parent volunteers, so please think it over.
- Dressing for the Performance:
- The Band will perform in the black marching band pants that we use for the Memorial Day parade. Included in the price for this trip is a t-shirt that will be worn during the performance and at the park to help identify our band. Students may change in to other pants or shorts once the performance is completed, but the t-shirt must remain visible while at the park.
- Since this is off campus, I need your permission for your son or daughter to participate. Attached to this letter is a permission slip, which should be returned with the student’s payment by Friday March 7, 2008.
Please contact me if you have any questions.

Chorus
November 16, 2007
Junior/Senior Chorus
Dear Parents,
Our Winter Concert has been rescheduled for
Friday, December 14,
1:45 p.m. and 7 p.m.
(Snow date: Tuesday, December 18th)
Our additional rehearsal for the Junior and Senior Chorus (grades 4-8)
will still be held on:
Tuesday, November 27th, 8 a.m. in the gym.
This rehearsal gives us the opportunity to sing on the risers in the gym and to understand the procedure for getting on and off the risers during the concert.
The concert attire for 2 p.m. & 7 p.m. performance is:
Boys: black pants, black socks, black shoes/sneakers,
White shirt with collar, turtleneck (no T-shirts)
(ties and bow ties are acceptable)
Girls: black pants/long black skirt below the knee,
black shoes (or sneakers worn with black pants)
White blouse, turtleneck, sweater (no T-shirts).
Please have the students bring clothes to change into for the afternoon concert. If your child does not have this attire, we will provide him/her with black pants and a white shirt. Please have your child dress at home before arriving for the evening concert. As mentioned earlier, this eliminates pre-concert confusion when arriving to school. Students are expected to be in the music room at 6:30 p.m. to prepare for the concert and vocal warm-ups. Please call for any concerns.
Musically yours,
Athena Halkiotis |
