Mrs. McClave is ready to start reading A Bad Case of Stripes by David Shannon. This is story is about how ill we look inside when we do not allow ourselves to just be ourselves. That is exactly what the disease of STRIPES is all about!

Ms. Klein also enjoys reading parts of this book to the students. In the story Camilla Cream wants to fit in so badly that she denies herself one thing that she really craves......lima beans! She breaks in a bad case of stripes. The doctors cannot find anything wrong with her and she has to go to school with stripes. Now she really doesn't fit in and the children begin to tease her wildly. She tries harder to conform and her classmates realize that she can become anything they want her to be just by yelling out to her.
Her parents desperate, call in all kinds of specialists, herbalists, psychics, a guru and even a vegetarian. Carmilla has them stumped! Whatever they recommend for a cure, she becomes. An Environmental Therapist claims that she can cure Camilla and tells her "Close your eyes", "Breathe deeply, and become one with the room." With that, Camilla melts into the room.

It takes the wisdom of an old woman with a handful of lima beans to cure Camilla.
